Reading Mary's comments about substitute teaching hit a familar chord: I also sub at a local highschool. For those of you not up on the latest requirements, here's some info we could have used back in AHS fifty-two years ago:
Now, if a student is considered 'disadvantaged', the teacher must 'modify' the test by:
1) allowing the student to have copy of notes while testing; 2) make that student's test have fewer multiple choice choices; 3) don't make them use scantron (the fill-in-the-bubble machine graded answer sheets) 4) Give them test study guides; 5) Reduce the length of their test; 6) Require short answers, not essay; 7) do not penalize for spelling; 8) Allow extra time; 9) Allow extra spacing for work; 10) Allow work book 11) Allow student to take quiz to CMC (Content Mastery Class) where another full time teacher helps students with work.
That's the law, now! Remember what it used to be? Mrs. Britt and Richmond would have a fit...
